Escape Room to raise awareness among young people of the risks of tobacco

Last Friday, May 31st, Edensol, at Espai Boule hosted, on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, an 'escape room' for 2nd year ESO students from INS Baix Camp and Salvador Vilaseca. The initiative was organized by the Community Health Team and the Tobacco Referents of the CAP Sant Pere.

In total, 280 students participated, with the aim of making them aware of the health risks involved in tobacco consumption. Likewise, they were informed and made aware that for this year 2024 the theme of World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) focuses on advocating that the tobacco industry stop targeting young people with products that are harmful to their health, using different forms to spread misinformation and covert advertising.

The Dynamics

The escape room consisted of discovering some evil tobacco agents (nicotine, methanol, butane, paint...), who wanted to conquer the lung planet, with the construction of weapons of mass destruction: cigarettes and their derivatives. This dynamic allowed explaining to the young people the harmful effects of tobacco in any of its forms. The experience was very positive, as they were able to capture the concerns and doubts and expand the previous information they had.

It is expected that this activity will be repeated next year for 2nd year ESO students, in addition to being able to carry out annual primary and secondary prevention for all students of this course, before the tobacco habit is established.

The event was attended by Edensol, the Tarragona Medical College, the Network of Museums of the Ebro Lands and the Tarragona Region and the Reus City Council, among others. This work is framed from the perspective of community and transversal health.
